President to Decide on Iran's New Envoy to IAEA
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry's Deputy director general for international and political affairs said he has not so far received any presidential decree concerning his appointment as the country’s new envoy to the International Atomic energy Agency (IAEA).
Earlier, an informed source had disclosed that Iran plans to appoint a new representative at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The mission of Iran’s current Ambassador to the IAEA Ali Asqar Soltaniyeh will end on August 31.
The source predicted that Reza Najafi will replace Soltaniyeh.
Speaking to Tasnim on Saturday, Reza Najafi said he still serves as the foreign ministry’s deputy director general for international and political affairs, saying that he has yet to receive the presidential decree for a new post.
Earlier in the day, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced that the country has not appointed its new envoys to the international organizations yet, adding that the president has the final say on the issue.
“The procedures for appointing the new representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the international organizations have been started, but no person has been appointed for any post yet. That will be possible after the president signs the appointment (decree),” the Iranian minister added.
