Esteqlal-Persepolis Ready for Friday Derby
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Friday derby of Iranian capital city’s two most favorite teams, the Esteqlal blues and the Persepolis reds, will be more sensitive than ever before as the two teams’ rankings have not been so close for many years in the Iranian Pro League ranking.
Esteqlal ranks 2nd and Persepolis 3rd in the league, but if the top team in the ranking list, Foulad, loses in its last game before the derby, the winner of the Friday game will rank first.
Winning the derby has always been a top priority for both teams, comparable to winning the league and both teams’ enthusiastic supporters always rush to the stadium many hours before the game, and even sleep the night before the game outside the stadium lest they may lose the thrill.
The Friday derby is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm local time.
