Iran's Parliament Backs Expansion of Ties with Sri Lanka
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi voiced the parliament's support for the development of cooperation between Iran and Sri Lanka in different areas.
He made the remark in a meeting with Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Iran Mohammad Feisal Razin on Sunday, adding that tapping into the potentials of the two countries would pave the way for boosting cooperation and improved bilateral and regional relations.
He referred to the history of good relations between Iran and Sri Lanka and underlined the need for more consultations between the two countries’ officials.
The Sri Lankan envoy, for his part, said the Islamic Republic of Iran has a special place in Colombo’s foreign policy.
He stressed the role of parliamentary collaborations in enhancing bilateral relations and hoped for the development of ties between Tehran and Colombo in areas of mutual interest.
He also briefed the Iranian lawmaker on the latest developments in Sri Lanka.
Earlier this month, Sri Lankan Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiyutheen expressed his country’s willingness to employ Iran’s technical expertise, saying Colombo looks for the broader presence of the Iranian investors in the Southeast Asian country.
In a meeting with Iran’s Acting Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi here in Tehran, the visiting Sri Lankan minister described as friendly and firm the bilateral relations between Tehran and Colombo, saying his country wants to utilize the Islamic Republic’s technical expertise and engineering consultation.
Bathiyutheen was in Tehran to participate in the 10th session of Iran-Sri Lanka Joint Economic Commission.
