Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan Railroad to Be Inaugurated in 2014

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohammad Shariatmadari said the Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan Railroad is scheduled to be launched within a month.

Shariatmadari said once the three countries’ railroads are connected, it will transport three million tons of cargo per year.

He added that the cargo transportation volume could increase to 10 million tons annually in the future.

Asked about the date for the three countries’ presidents to attend the inauguration ceremony, the vice-president said it has not been decided yet.  

The Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan railroad is part of the North-South Transnational Corridor.

The North-South Transnational Corridor is a 677 km-long railroad line connecting the Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan with Iran and the Persian Gulf.
