Iran, Portugal Sign Interim Air Transport Deal
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – For the first time in 35 years, Iran and Portugal have inked an agreement on air transport cooperation.
Alireza Jahangirian, Iran’s deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister and head of the country’s Civil Aviation Organization, said the agreement was signed during his visit to Lisbon earlier this week.
It came after intensive negotiations between the two sides on Wednesday and Thursday, he stated.
According to Jahangirian, this is the first such agreement between Iran and and the EU country in the past 35 years.
Based on the deal, the two countries’ airlines can have up to 7 scheduled weekly flights and an unlimited number of non-scheduled flights to the other country with authorization from the other side’s civil aviation organization, he said.
The deputy minister went on to say that Iran’s Iran Air and Portugal’s Euroatlantic Airways will serve as auxiliary companies, according the interim agreement.
