MP Calls Removal of Sanctions "Iran’s Red line"
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A prominent Iranian lawmaker demanded the removal of all sanctions imposed against Tehran, saying that the issue should be resolved in the nuclear talks with six world powers.
Parliament's Vice-Speaker Mohammad Reza Bahonar said the timeline of removing sanctions should be agreed upon on a case-by-case basis.
He made the comments in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday.
The senior lawmaker also pointed to the ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and five permanent members of the UN Security Council and said reaching a final deal will be “a win-win-game” for the both sides.
Bahonar also reiterated the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities, emphasizing that a “symbolic enrichment” is not acceptable and the country should continue its enrichment activities at least on a semi-industrial scale.
Top diplomats from Iran and the group of six world powers have stepped up efforts to clinch a lasting deal on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear case in the Austrian capital of Vienna.
A fresh round of talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) that started on Tuesday seems to be reaching its climax as the parties are faced with a looming deadline of November 24.
On November 24, 2013, Iran and the G5+1 (alternatively known as the P5+1 or E3+3) signed an interim nuclear deal in the Swiss city of Geneva.
The Geneva deal (the Joint Plan of Action) came into effect in January and expired in July, when the parties decided to extend negotiations until November 24 in the hope of clinching a final deal that would end a decade of impasse over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear energy program.
