Iran, Iraq Discuss Lifting Visa Restrictions for Diplomats
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian and Iraqi deputy foreign ministers on Monday exchanged views on a whole range of issues, including a plan to cancel visa requirements for the holders of diplomatic and service passports.
During the 7th session of Iran-Iraq joint consular commission held in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Monday, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Iranian Expatriates Affairs Hassan Qashqavi announced that Tehran is ready to facilitate visa process for Iraqi diplomats.
During the meeting, Qashqavi and his Iraqi counterpart also held talks on other issues, including illegal border-crossings and the problems facing the Iranian and Iraqi tourists.
The two sides also agreed to implement deals on “judicial assistance”, particularly the extradition of criminals between the two neighboring countries.
At the end of the session, the Iranian and Iraqi diplomats also signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral ties between the two countries.
Back in April 2011, Iran and Iraq signed agreements on the extradition of criminals, including provisions for the repatriation of convicts to their country of origin.
Earlier on Monday, Qashqavi had met with Iraqi Justice Minister Haydar al-Zamili and the head of the Iraqi Parliament’s Foreign Policy Commission, Hamam Al-Hamoudi.
