Iran Produces 20.5mln Tons of Crops in 2014

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in its latest Crop Prospects and Food Situation Report, announced that Iran has totally produced 20.5 million tons of crops during the 2014 crop year.

According to the report, Iran’s output in the crop year, which ended on September 23 in the country, has witnessed a 0.9mln tons decrease compared to the same period last year.

During the period, the Islamic Republic has totally harvested 13 million tons of wheat, the report showed.

The production of rough rice in the country also increased by 100 thousand tons, reaching three million tons. In 2013 the figure stood at 2.9 million tons.

According to FAO estimations, crop reserves in Iran in the current year has risen by one million tons, hitting 7.6mln tons and it is predicted that the figure would reach 8.7mln tons in 2015.  

Back in May, Iranian Minister of Agricultural Jihad Mahmoud Hojjati had said that the country produces over 90 million tons of agricultural products each year and ranks among the top ten list of the world’s biggest exporters of agricultural goods.
