Iranian MP Deplores West’s Silence on Massacre of People by Terrorists in Pakistan
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker lashed out at the Western countries for their silence over the slaughter of Muslim people in terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
Earlier on Friday, over 60 people were killed and dozens more severely injured in a bomb attack on a Shiite mosque and religious center in Pakistan's southern province of Sindh.
Local security officials said the attack occurred when people were performing Friday Prayers in the town of Shikarpur, around 470 kilometers (300 miles) north of the port city of Karachi.
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, the rapporteur for the parliament's national security and foreign policy commission, deplored the West, the US in particular, for their double-standard attitude towards the issue of terrorism.
He stressed that westerners would have waged a massive war on the region on the pretext of similar slaughter if the victims were from countries that are considered as allies of Israel or the US.
Since they are Muslims and do not follow the West, the international community has ignored the slaughter of 100 innocent people, Naqavi Hosseini added.
“With their meaningful silence over the crimes committed against Muslims, the US and the West have become the biggest promoters of terrorism,” he said.
His remarks come as targeted killings against Shiite Muslims in Pakistan have drawn international outrage, with rights groups and regional countries expressing concern over the growing deadly violence.
