Iran’s Ali Daei to Participate in Legends Cup

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ali Daei from Iran will participate in the International football tournament Legends Cup to be staged on 14-15 February at the Luzhniki Small Sports Arena in Moscow.

AFC player of the year 1999 Daei is the world's all-time leading goal-scorer in international matches with 109 goals scored for Iran.

The Legends Cup is a yearly football tournament held in Russia since 2009 for senior (35+) retired football players.

A match lasts 40 minutes, 20 minutes a half. Half-time takes 10 minutes. There are 5 field players and a goalkeeper. The tournament is held with the support of the Russian Football Union, the Moscow City Duma and the State Duma.

The forthcoming edition of the Legends Cup will welcome the teams of Russia, Italy, Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands and the international star team. Under the competition regulations the players of the teams must be above the age of 35 and have a number of caps for the national teams of their countries during their careers.

FC "Lokomotiv" Moscow legend Ruslan Nigmatullin will be a goalkeeper of the world star team. His team mates will be Brazilians Aldair and Serginho as well as the world champion 1998 French Vincent Candela.

The 6 teams will be divided up into two groups. The winner teams will proceed to the final, other teams will compete for the lower places, rfs.ru wrote.
