Envoy Reaffirms Tehran’s Continued Support for Iraq
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Danaeifar reiterated that Tehran will continue its supports for the Arab country in its fight against the ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) terrorist group.
In a Monday meeting between Danaeifar and Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri in Baghdad, the two sides have conferred on the most recent developments in the anti-ISIL campaign.
According to a statement released by Jabouri’s office, the Iranian envoy has noted that Tehran will not stop supporting the neighboring Iraq until the eradication of Takfiri (extremist) terrorists.
Iran is ready to continue its cooperation with Iraq in all areas, particularly in security affairs and Baghdad’s confrontation with the ISIL terrorist group, Danaeifar said, Almasalah news website reported.
Al-Jabouri, for his part, has underscored the necessity for joint and integrated international efforts in the fight against ISIL.
Security developments in Iraq are considered as a regional threat, and countering such threats requires international cooperation, the Iraqi speaker said.
Iraq has been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the ISIL terrorist group.
The ISIL militants made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the summer, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.
However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, have blunted the edge of the ISIL offensive.
Amid tensions in Iraq, Iran is known as the first country to help the Arab country and has always voiced support for Iraq’s solidarity and prosperity.
