Iranian Parliament Hopes Nuclear Talks Guarantee National Interests
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's parliament vice-speaker expressed optimism that the outcome of negotiations between Iran and six world powers over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear energy program would “guarantee” the country’s national interests.
Speaking in an open session of the parliament on Tuesday morning, Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard pointed to the talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), and said, “We hope that the negotiations would guarantee the national interests of the great nation of Iran.”
The nation has insisted on its nuclear rights and defended them under the pressure of toughest sanctions by Western powers and the UN Security Council resolutions against Tehran, he noted.
“The Iranian nation has powerfully passed through inhuman sanctions rooted in the power of the hegemonic system,” Aboutorabi-Fard said, referring to the removal of anti-Iran embargoes imposed by the West.
The marathon nuclear negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1, which have been going for more than two weeks in Vienna, will be concluded on Tuesday.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (alternatively known as the P5+1 or E3+3) have been engaged in diplomatic talks over the past 22 months to nail down a historic deal that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's nuclear energy program.
