Nuclear Conclusion to Enhance Regional Cooperation: Iran's Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of Iran's Parliament Ali Larijani on Wednesday referred to the conclusion of nuclear talks between Tehran and world powers as a beginning for enhanced cooperation between Iran and its neighbors.

"The deal opened a new field for cooperation of Islamic countries and the region with the Islamic Republic," Larijani said, addressing the parliament here in Tehran.

He further urged that "regional and neighboring countries tap into this constructive capacity, which can serve as a valuable ground for establishing sustainable security based on the wills of regional nations."

Larijani also appreciated the efforts and initiatives of Oman's Sultan Qaboos in support of the nuclear talks, saying that Iran would never forget the positive and constructive role of its friends in the region.

His remarks came after Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France, and Germany) concluded more than two weeks of intensive talks over Tehran's nuclear program in Vienna.

The negotiating parties reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on the nuclear issue after 22 months of talks.

In a joint statement, European Union's Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini, who has been coordinating diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the six powers, and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, referred to Tuesday as "an historic day".
