Cooperation A Must for Regional States: Iran's FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif emphasized the necessity for cooperation among the regional countries in the contemporary era.

"Today, regional cooperation is an urgent and important need for everyone," Zarif said in a meeting with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, held in the Arab country on Sunday.

Zarif also made a reference to the recent conclusion of diplomatic talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) over Tehran's nuclear energy program, and slammed the "fabricated crisis" regarding the nuclear issue as an "unnecessary obstacle" in the way of expansion of ties between Iran and other countries.

He further underlined that Iran favors security and stability in the regional and neighboring states.

"Regional countries, particularly the neighbors, are always the Islamic Republic of Iran's main priority in the expansion of relations and cooperation in all fields," Zarif went on to say.

For his part, the Kuwaiti emir welcomed stronger ties between Iran and the Persian Gulf states.

Sheikh Sabah also congratulated Iran on the successful conclusion of nuclear talks with major world powers.

Iran and the six powers on July 14 finalized the text of a lasting nuclear deal that would terminate all anti-Iran sanctions after taking effect. The United Nations Security Council also unanimously passed a resolution afterwards, endorsing the comprehensive accord.
