Iranian MP Warns against Washington’s Violation of Nuclear Deal
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A Senior Iranian lawmaker underlined that Tehran still distrusts Washington because of its arrogant nature and warned that if the US government reneges on the nuclear deal, Iran will also stop implementing it.
Speaking to Alam Arabic-language TV network on Sunday, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi elaborated on reasons behind Iran’s deep mistrust of the US and its commitment to an agreement recently reached between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
“We are still distrustful of the US because of the country’s arrogant nature and its supports for the Zionist regime (of Israel) in the massacre of the oppressed people of Palestine and its move to back Saudi Arabia’s killing of Yemeni people,” he stated.
“In this climate of mistrust, there are concerns and if they renege (on the nuclear agreement), we will do the same,” Boroujerdi said.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.
The 159-page deal has its own opponents and proponents both in Iran and the other countries that are parties to the JCPOA, particularly the US.
While the United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution to endorse the deal, the text of the document needs to be ratified by both Iran's Parliament and the US Congress.
