Leader Condoles Martyrdom of IRGC General in Syria
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei offered condolences on the martyrdom of Brigadier General Hossein Hamedani, an IRGC commander who was killed by the ISIL terrorists while in an advisory mission in Syria.
In a message on Saturday, Imam Khamenei expressed condolences to the family of the martyr, his friends, comrades in arms and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
The Leader also paid tribute to General Hamedani as an “old, amiable and hardworking” veteran who spent his youth defending the country and the Islamic Republic Establishment in the Iraqi imposed war, and made efforts to protect the holy Shiite sites against assaults by the Takfiri and anti-Islamic militants in his later life.
Imam Khamenei further underlined that those serving in the IRGC and other branches of the Armed Forces are steadfastly aspiring to achieve martyrdom.
“May God bless martyr Hamedani and all warriors on the path of the Truth,” the Supreme Leader added.
The general was killed Thursday evening by the ISIL terrorists on the outskirts of the Syrian city of Aleppo.
A one-time commander during the 8-year Iraqi imposed war on Iran in the 1980s, Brigadier General Hamedani was a senior military advisor that played a “decisive role in the protection of the holy shrine of Sayyida Zeinab (AS)” against terrorist attacks, the IRGC said in a statement on Friday.
The shrine of Sayyida Zeinab, a sister of the third Shiite Imam (AS), is located in Damascus.
The IRGC statement also highlighted Brigadier General Hamedani’s role in strengthening the Islamic resistance front in the fight on terrorists in Syria.
