Valdai Meeting in Russia Good Opportunity for Regional Consensus: Iran’s Larijani
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani described the annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Russia as a good opportunity for regional countries to reach consensus on international issues.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday upon his arrival in the Russian city of Sochi, Larijani pointed to the latest developments in the Middle East, saying, “Given the situation of the region, the conference would be an appropriate opportunity to build consensus and convergence among regional allies.”
At the conference, the root causes of the emergence of terrorist currents and ways to organize the fight against terrorism will be discussed, he noted.
During his one-day visit, Larijani will deliver a speech at the 12th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club entitled “Societies between War and Peace: Overcoming the Logic of Conflict in Tomorrow's World”.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular and Expatriates’ Affairs Hassan Qashqavi is also accompanying Larijani, who will return to Iran Thursday night.
The Valdai Discussion Club was established in 2004. It was named after Lake Valdai, which is located close to Veliky Novgorod, where the club’s first meeting took place.
