Capital’s Reds, Blues Begin Iran's Premier League with Victory
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s most popular football teams, Persepolis and Esteqlal, began the season victorious in games against their rivals in the first week of the country's Premier League (IPL).
The Persepolis Head Coach Ali Daie’s team started the 2013-14 league, also known as Persian Gulf League, with a game against Tracktorsazi at Tehran’s Azadi Sports Complex.
The winning goal of Persepolis and the game’s only goal was scored five minutes before the end of the game.
The Iranian National Football Team’s Head Coach Carlos Queiroz, who had arrived in Tehran a few days ago was among the game’s spectators.
Head Coach Amir Qal’ehnoie’s defending champions, Esteqlal, too, started the new season with a 2-1 victory over Gostaresh Foulad in Iran's northwestern city of Tabriz.
The giant blues had to wait until the game’s final minute for Farhad Majidi’s winning goal though.
