Official: Iran to Attract 20 Million Tourists by 2025

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is expected to attract some 20 million foreign tourists by 2025, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) said.

“We can reach that level (in attracting foreign tourists) if we work on scientific, religious and health tourism,” Iranian Permanent Ambassador and Delegate to UNESCO Mohammad Reza Majidi told Tasnim.

The Iranian envoy also called for national resolve to invigorate the country’s tourism sector, and added, “Many tourists are willing to come to Iran…Iran’s tourism (sector) will not revive with slogans.”

Majidi further noted that many people across the world, particularly in the region, are eager to travel to Iran to visit its numerous monuments and landmarks such as Hegmataneh, Persepolis, Takht-e Jamshid and Shoush. Also the country's diverse and beautiful landscape is suitable for a range of activities.

Iran's '20-Year Vision' document projects investment of over $32bln in the country's tourism sector.

The document also predicts that Iran will account for two percent of international tourists by 2025.
