Iranian MP Denies US Allegations about Parchin Site

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker strongly rejected the recent allegations raised by the US media about Iran's activities in Parchin military site, stressing that Tehran has done nothing against the international regulations.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has not conducted any move against NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty) and the (International Atomic Energy) agency’s regulations," Rapporteur of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told Tasnim.

He pointed to the recent media reports about Parchin site, and stated that the US calims about Parchin is part of propaganda campaign and are "categorically denied".

A number of US media outlets have fueled speculations recently that Iran has allegedly covered much of its Parchin military site with asphalt to “sanitize” the location.

The New York Times reported on August 22 that Iran has paved over large swaths of a restricted military base that United Nations nuclear inspectors have sought to visit because they suspect it was once a laboratory for nuclear activities.

The Iranian lawmaker further added that Iran has reported all its nuclear activities to the IAEA, and said, “The Americans…do not want the Islamic republic of Iran’s nuclear case to yield results through negotiations.”

The United States, Israel and some of their European allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran, however, rejects the allegations, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
