Commander: IRGC, Army to Jointly Respond to Possible Threats

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian navy commander said Thursday that all branches of the country's Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) work as a single entity in the face of any threat against the country.

“Our defense strategy is a comprehensive one, and to reach that stage all (the armed) forces must join hands like the rings in a chain,” Lieutenant Commander of Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Gholam Reza Biqam said.

“These forces include the Navy, Ground Force and Air Force of the Iranian Army, as well as  the IRGC forces. If each of them performs its commissioned tasks perfectly we will have a solid and strong defensive chain,” he added.

The commander further said that the technology and defense systems of the Iranian navy are so developed today that "we consider the Persian Gulf as a part of our own territory; for us the Persian Gulf is not like it was in the past, which means to safeguard our interests in the Persian Gulf, we do not need advanced technology and very complicated equipment.”

Rear Admiral Biqam said that the Iranian navy  has a strong presence in the high seas and international waters in pursuit of the country's interests which also improves the country's international stature.

Meanwhile, the IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi had said in mid-August that enemies and even world powers are aware of Iran's deterrence power and shy away from military confrontation with the IRGC naval forces in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.

The commander further stressed that the IRGC Navy’s dynamic and effective deterrence in the region "is proportionate to the type and size of possible threats".

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems, including military vessels, aircraft, missiles, tanks, armored vehicles, submarines, radars, and air defense systems, among others.

Tehran has repeatedly announced that its military might is based merely on the nation's defense doctrine of deterrence and poses no threat to other countries.

In recent years, Iran has also held several military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and test modern military tactics and equipment.
