Tehran Police Seize 100-Ton Consignment of Smuggled Medicines

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tehran Police managed to seize one hundred tons of smuggled medicines in the Iranian capital city on Sunday.

Various units of Tehran law enforcement forces were involved in the identification and intelligence work that led to the seizure of the huge consignment.

The smugglers had transferred the medicines from the western cities of the country and stored them in a warehouse in a southern part of Tehran.

The tight sanctions by the US and European Union have made the imports of drugs into the country difficult -- as they target the financial system of Iran through which money transfers are carried out -- something that has led to a rise in smuggling of medicines into the country.
