Central Bank Governor off to US to Attend IMF Annual Autumn Meeting

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Governor of the Central Bank of Iran left Tehran for the US Monday night to attend the annual autumn meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

Valiollah Seif is accompanied by his deputies in this visit. The IMF and the World Bank hold two joint meetings every year in the presence of the world central bank governors and economy ministers, where the most important economic developments in the world are discussed.

Seif is expected to have meetings with some of his counterparts from different countries and he is scheduled to have a one-on-one meeting with the IMF Chief Christine Lagarde.

Some European economic analysts have predicted that the euro crisis will not be the center of attention at the IMF and World Bank meeting this year, and instead, the US political gridlock and a monetary "exit strategy" which are the greatest threats to the world's emerging economies would be discussed.

The US debt limit is currently 16.7 trillion dollars. If it is not raised on time, the world's largest economy would officially go bankrupt on October 17.
