Roadside Bomb Kills Soldier in Egypt's Sinai

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - An Egyptian military official says a roadside bomb has struck an armored military vehicle in the restive northern part of Sinai, killing one soldier and wounding seven.

The official says the armored vehicle and a troop carrier were travelling on a key highway in the Sinai Peninsula on Tuesday when the bomb exploded. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with military regulations.

The wounded soldiers, some described as being in critical condition, were taken to the military hospital in the northern Sinai provincial capital of el-Arish, AP reported.

Attacks in Sinai have increased since the July ouster of President Mohammed Mursi. Several al-Qaeda-inspired militant groups have stepped up attacks on security and military targets in the peninsula.
