Judiciary Official: 18 UNICEF Offices Active in Iran


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has 18 active representative offices in Iran which are involved in training, publication of books and provision of required software, said caretaker of the international affairs office of the judiciary on Saturday.

Ali Reza Saedi said the judiciary looks favorably on the presence and activities of the the UN children's agency in the country and emphasized that cooperation with the UN body should continue.

Noting that the judiciary's international affairs office is in charge of relations with the international organizations and cooperation with them, Saedi said that his office cooperates with the UNICEF’s program against committing crimes and narcotic drugs.

The representative of UNICEF in Iran, Mokhtar Hosseini, said that November 20 is the anniversary of ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), of which Iran is a signatory party.

UNICEF’s mission is to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential, according to the official UNICEF website.

UNICEF is guided in doing this by the provisions and principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Built on varied legal systems and cultural traditions, the Convention is a universally agreed set of non-negotiable standards and obligations.
