Spokeswoman Confirms Iranian Diplomat’s Death in Yemen
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian diplomat has been killed in a terrorist attack in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a on Saturday, the foreign ministry confirmed.
Marziyeh Afkham told the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday that an Iranian diplomat in Yemen’s capital has been pronounced dead after a terrorist attack earlier in the day.
She said members of a terrorist group assaulted the diplomat in the street, trying to abduct the Iranian national.
The gunmen then opened fire on the diplomat after they faced resistance, Afkham added.
Unfortunately, the Iranian diplomat was seriously injured in the incident, and died of the gunshot wounds later after being taken to a hospital, she noted.
The spokeswoman also noted that Iran is seriously pursuing the dimensions of the terrorist attack in contact with the Yemeni officials.
Earlier in the day, Reuters quoted security sources as saying that gunmen fired shots at a car belonging to the Iranian embassy near the ambassador's residence in Yemen's capital of Sana’a on Saturday, seriously wounding a diplomat.
The ambassador was not in the car at the time of the attack, the sources said.
