Iranian, Russian FMs Discuss Nuclear Issue

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Russian foreign affairs chief Sergei Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, held phone talks on the first results of Tehran’s nuclear deal with a group of six international mediators.

According to the Russian foreign office, the ministers discussed ways to promote bilateral cooperation in a wide range of spheres, including trade and economic partnership.

They also exchanged opinions on the Iranian nuclear issue. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Mr. Lavrov and Mr. Zarif said that Geneva agreements took off to a good start since the deal was reached on January 20, Voice of Russia reported.

The ministers underscored that the Joint Plan of Action, adopted by Tehran and P5+1 member states on November 24, would help to allay concerns about Iran’s nuclear program, while also giving the country a leeway within the Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Up for discussion was also the ongoing Syrian conflict, as well as other international and regional issues, the Russian source said.
