Speaker: US Has No Right to Interfere in Iran’s Internal Affairs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Saturday lashed out at the US for its interference in the country's internal affairs, stressing that Washington has no right to meddle in Iran's affairs.

He made the remark Saturday in a press conference in Tehran in which Larijani dismissed the recent remarks made by the US officials about Iran’s domestic affairs and defensive and ballistic missile capabilities.

The White House National Security Council (NSC) Spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan had said on February 11 that the US aims to stop Iran’s missile tests under a final nuclear agreement, which Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, Britain, the US, China, France and Germany) try to achieve in a series of comprehensive talks.

“We have seen reports that Iran has tested two missiles. Iran’s missile program continues to pose a dangerous threat to region, and is an issue we monitor closely,” she told the Washington Free Beacon on Tuesday.

Larijani further underlined that what US officials say about Iran and the Geneva nuclear deal have domestic consumption.

“There is no reason for us to spend time (to respond to) their unfounded remarks. What matters is that national solidarity should be maintained to defend our national interests.”

He further warned the US against hindering nuclear negotiations between Iran and the sextet of powers, stressing that US President Barack Obama would “gain nothing if the talks hit a dead-end”.

Tehran and the G5+1 (also known as P5+1 or E3+3) are due to begin a new round of talks in Vienna on February 18, aimed at working out a final agreement on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
