No One in Iran Awaiting American Orchestra: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian military official said no one in the Islamic Republic of Iran is looking forward to a visit by an American orchestra.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces for Basij and Defense Culture Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri made the remark on Monday in reaction to reports about an American Orchestra planning to perform in Iran.

Noting that Iran is facing a big soft war waged by the United States, he said, “While the Americans pursue an onslaught against the Islamic Republic’s values, it is natural that Iranians look at these cultural diplomacy movements by the US … with utmost distrust and pessimism.”

Jazayeri said that in the past 35 years since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the United States has never stopped its attempts to invade the Iranian culture and spread its own culture and the Western life style.

He added that Washington has waged an all-out war against Islam and Iran by producing anti-Iran and anti-Islam movies, launching media campaigns against the Islamic Republic and the Islamic resistance, establishing (anti-Iran) satellite networks, and employing music, fashion, satire, arts, etc.

Officials with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra are reported to be planning a potential trip to Iran in September.

The orchestra officials are also said to plan an advance trip to the country during the Fajr International Music Festival.
