President Rouhani Underscores Iran's Regional Clout

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Monday underlined that the Islamic Republic is presently revered as the mightiest and most influential country in the region, adding that Tehran plays key role in preserving the regional peace and stability.

“Today, it is clear to everyone that the strongest, greatest and mightiest country in the region is currently the Islamic Republic of Iran,” president Rouhani said in a cultural ceremony held to commemorate the Iranian martyrs who have lost their lives for their motherland.

The president stressed that the notion that “Iran is a mighty state” even sounds obvious to the outsiders.

“Also, aliens are aware that peace and stability in the region will not be established without the presence of Iran’s will.”

President Rouhani further reiterated that Iran’s “national interests and revolutionary values” outstrip any sort of likely political differences or factional division, asserting that Iranians are a “single fist” in the face of the adversaries and ill-wishers.

He further paid tribute to the whole Iranian martyrs who devoted their lives to their homeland, either during the Iraqi imposed war on the country in the 1980s or other junctures in the history of the Islamic Revolution.

Iraq, under former dictator Saddam Hussein, invaded Iran on September 22, 1980, imposing a bitter eight-year war on its eastern neighbor.

A whole host of regional Arab states and western countries assisted the infamous Iraqi dictator in the full-fledged war against Iran, which has not initiated any military offensives in the past 250 years.
