Leader Specifies Policies to Boost Flexibility of National Economy


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution on Tuesday explicated features of the “Resistance Economy”, stressing that it will give the country’s economy more flexibility when fully implemented.

Addressing hundreds of Iranian authorities in charge of different executive organizations, economic activists and managers here in Tehran on Tuesday, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei provided a detailed explanation of the general policies of the 'Resistance Economy'.

Earlier on February 19, the Supreme Leader had in a proclamation outlined a series of general policies to boost the country’s economy and lower its vulnerabilities.

The proclamation, laying out a grand plan for Resistance Economy in Iran, has been issued after consultations with the country’s Expediency Council and based upon the Clause 1 of Article 110 of the Iranian Constitution.

During today’s meeting, the Leader reiterated that the set of Resistance Economy guidelines are not confined to the present era, noting that such policies introduce a long-term scheme for the country’s economy in a bid to achieve the economic goals of the Islamic establishment.

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that such policies have been formulated in a way that they can be supplemented in the future and can conform to varied conditions as well.

“The policies… will practically lead the country’s economy to the flexibility status, and will eliminate the fragility of economy in different situation,” the Leader explained.

Describing the general policies of the Resistance Economy as an “accurate and firm set” of guidelines, Ayatollah Khamenei noted that the initiative is not something exclusive to the Islamic Republic.

“In the recent years, given the global economic crisis, a lot of countries are seeking to reinforce economy in light of their respective conditions and internal structures,” the Supreme Leader pointed out.

As regards the outstanding specifics of the Resistance Economy, the Leader explained that implementation of those general policies will fortify the country’s resistance to the threatening factors.

“The world economic shocks, natural disasters and hostile shocks, such as sanctions, are among those threatening factors.”

The Supreme Leader also touched on the other features of the Resistance Economy policies, saying the grand plan will enable Iran to secure the supply of strategic goods, particularly food and medicine, and will also make the country self-sufficient in fulfilling its requirements.

Moreover, Ayatollah Khamenei made clear that the Resistance Economy policies will reduce Iran’s dependence on the oil revenues.

The leader went on to say that the whole policies should be based upon scientific pillars, and added, “Today, the country’s conditions, concerning the scientific progress, is in such a way that we can define achieving knowledge-based economy among our goals with ambition.”

In relevant remarks on February 24, Ayatollah Khamenei had in a meeting with the heads of Iran’s executive, legislative and judicial bodies called on the heads of Iran’s three branches of power to immediately put the general policies of the Resistance Economy into practice, noting that serious pursuit of the grand economic plan will revive Iran's economy in a mid-term period.

“The implementation process of the general policies of Resistance Economy should continue in a form of continued and non-stop movement until reaching the goal,” the Leader had underlined at the time.
