Iranian Economy Minister Departs for US


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia, heading a high-ranking delegation of Iranian economic officials, left Tehran for the US on Tuesday to participate in the 2014 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG)

Earlier in the day, Head of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Valiollah Seif had also departed for Washington D.C. to take part in the 2014 Spring Meetings, which will be held from April 9 to 12.

Each spring, thousands of government officials, journalists, civil society organizations, and invited participants from the academic and private sectors, gather in Washington D.C. for the Spring Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group.

The agenda of the meetings include various issues such as economic diversification in natural resource-based economies, subsidies, provision of housing for low-income people, among others.

The most important meetings include economic forums attended by senior officials from the IMF and the WBG, the ministerial meetings of the Group of 24 (G-24), and the sessions held by the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) and the Development Committee (DC).
