Iran Seizes 7 Saudi Fishing Boats
TEHRAN (Tasnim) — Seven Saudi fishing boats, which entered illegally into Iran’s territorial waters, were seized by the country’s coast guard off the southern province of Hormozgan.
During a joint operation, the forces of the Iranian Coast Guard and the Fisheries Conservation Unit of Hormozgan Province blocked the Saudi vessels earlier this week after they crossed illegally into Iran’s territorial waters, Commander of the Fisheries Conservation Unit of Hormozgan Province Hassan Toulabi said on Saturday.
He also said that the 28 crew members of the seven boats have been arrested and will be handed over to judiciary officials after the completion of the necessary legal procedures, Press TV reported.
Foreign boats’ crossing into Iran’s waters is not something new in the Persian Gulf.
The Iranian coast guard has on many occasions seized and freed fishing boats from Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf littoral states after they illegally crossed into the country’s territorial waters.
