Commander: Iranian Army to Stage First Drone Wargames

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force announced that his forces are set to hold an expert drill that will include Army's Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) during the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2014).

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan noted that the specialized drone wargame will take place in the second half of the current Iranian year (September 23, 2014 - March 20, 2015).

The top officer also noted that the upcoming expert drill will be held either in the Aliabad region, near the central city of Qom, or in the central province of Isfahan.

“The wargame will be staged independently by the Ground Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army,” Pourdastan pointed out.

The commander had announced earlier that the Army Ground Force will hold 4 military exercises during the current Iranian year, including an “expert cyber drill”.

Earlier in September 2013, Brigadier General Pourdastan unveiled the force's latest version of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), dubbed ‘Yasir’.

According to the senior commander, Yasir, which enjoys high flight capability, has been locally mass-produced.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Army units are preparing to attend nationwide military parades on the occasion of Iran’s National Army Day on coming Friday.

A whole host of the Army units will put their most recent achievements on display during the forthcoming parades.
