Iran’s Greco-Roman Team Comes 3rd in Asian Championship


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Greco-Roman team finished in third place in the 2014 Asian Wrestling Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Sunday.

On Sunday, Behnam Mehdizadeh defeated Murat Ramonov from Kyrgyzstan in the 120kg and won the gold medal.

Bronze medal went to Uzbekistan’s Abror Mamasaliev and Kim Yong-min from South Korea.

In the 80kg, Yousef Ghaderian bagged a silver medal. The Iranian wrestler lost to Janarbek Kenjeev from Kyrgyzstan in the final match.

Saeid Abdevali and Chinese Yang Bin jointly bagged the bronze medal in 75kg. Kim Hyeon-woo from South Korea claimed a gold and silver medal went to Takehiro Kanakubo from Japan.

In the 85kg, Mojtaba Karimfar claimed the bronze. Indian Manoj Kumar also won the bronze in the weight category. Nursultan Tursynov from Kazakhstan clinched the gold medal and Uzbek Rustam Assakalov won the silver.

Ali Aliyari claimed a bronze medal in the 98kg. Xiao Di from China also won the bronze. The gold medal went to Kazakhstan’s Yerulan Iskakov and Japanese Akira Osaka seized the silver medal.

Iran’s Greco-Roman team finished in third place with 53 points. Host Kazakhstan claimed the title with 63 points and Kyrgyzstan came second with 57 points.
