Iran's NPT Membership Signifies Tehran’s Sincerity over N. Issue, MP Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker said the fact that Tehran has accepted the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its nuclear activities are under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signifies the country’s sincerity over the nuclear issue.

The issue was raised by Head of Iran-Romania Parliamentary Friendship Group Mohammad Mehdi Zahedi during a Tuesday meeting with his Romanian counterpart in Tehran.

The Iranian MP also emphasized the importance of the parliamentary friendship groups, and said that the groups play an important role in “conveying political and social realities” and facilitating relations between the two countries.

He also expressed his dissatisfaction over the level of Tehran-Bucharest economic ties, and said Iran and Romania have great potentials to expand trade ties.

The Romanian lawmaker, for his part, voiced satisfaction with his visit to Iran, and called for the promotion of cooperation between the two countries.

Given the new atmosphere created in Iran and the progress in the country’s nuclear talks with world powers, there is a ground for improving mutual cooperation in all areas, particularly in the area of economy, the Romanian MP said.
