Iran to Inaugurate Major Fuel Refinery in Coming Months

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) Managing Director Abbas Kazemi expressed the hope that the Persian Gulf Star oil and gas refinery in the country’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas will come on stream soon.

“We hope that the first refining unit of the Persian Gulf Star Refinery will be operational in the second half of the current Iranian year (September 23, 2014 – March 20, 2015),”  Kazemi said in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency on Monday.

He further said after the completion of the first phase of the facility, 12 million liters of Euro-4 gasoline will be added to the country’s daily output and there will be no need for imports.

“After the unit is (fully) operational, we will no longer need to import gasoline,” Kazemi said.

Iranian Oil Ministry has forecasted that it needs to import 10 million liters of gasoline per day to meet the growing demand.

According to the latest official figures, Iranians consume more than 65 million liters of gasoline per day.
