Iranian, Singaporean Speakers Discuss Expansion of Parliamentry Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and his Singaporean counterpart held discussions on a wide range of issues, including expansion of parliamentary ties as well as international developments, in a meeting here in Tehran on Saturday.

“Parliamentary and economic cooperation, as well as major political issues, including regional and international diplomacy, were discussed in the meeting,” Larijani said in a press conference after a meeting with visiting Singaporean Parliament Speaker Halimah Yacob, who heads a high-ranking delegation of the Asian country to Iran.

Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program and regional challenges including terrorism and extremism, were also among the issues discussed in the meeting, said the senior Iranian lawmaker.

Larijani also expressed the confidence that the Singaporean team’s visit to Iran would help bolster relations between Tehran and Singapore City.

Yacob, for her part, voiced the Southeast Asian nation’s willingness to learn about the Iranian civilization. She also hoped that the existing friendly ties between the two countries could be further expanded.

Earlier in February, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting with his Singaporean counterpart said the two countries can expand relations in various political, economic, and cultural areas as well as in tourism and education.
