Iranian MP Blames US for Mounting ISIL Terrorism in Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A Senior Iranian lawmaker slammed the US government for supporting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group in Iraq.

“The anti-Islam and anti-religion group is operating on the part of the US and Israel to sow discord among Muslims… ISIL and other terrorist groups in Iraq are after implementing Washington’s anti Islam policies and spread Islamophobia,” Rapporteur of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday.

The Iranian lawmaker also said the crisis in Iraq has nothing to do with ethnic differences as both Sunni and Shiite Muslims have joined hand to confront ISIL terrorist group.

On June 10, Iraq’s northern Nineveh Province fell into the hands of militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The Takfiri (extremist terrorists’) attacks have reportedly forced more than half a million people in and around Mosul, the capital of Nineveh Province, to flee their homes.

The militants have vowed to march toward the capital, Baghdad.

Takfiri groups reportedly enter Iraq from neighboring Syria and Saudi Arabia to undermine security in the country.
