It Was Clear Penalty, Carlos Queiroz Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran's national football team coach Carlos Queiroz hit out at the referee for not handing his team a penalty against Argentina in a World Cup game on Saturday night.

Iran was defeated against Argentina in Group F of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Lionel Messi scored Argentina’s only goal in injury time.

Iranian midfielder Ashkan Dejagah was brought down inside Argentina’s area by Albiceleste defender Pablo Zabaleta in the second half, but the Serbian referee, Milorad Mazic, waved play on.

"It should have been a penalty and red card. There's no excuse. There's nothing that can explain (why) this Serbian referee (did) not give the penalty," Queiroz told reporters after the game.

"How can this guy sleep tonight, or for the rest of his life?" Queiroz continued. "With all respect, I would like to have the opportunity to have a one-on-one conversation with him. Why did he do that to us?"
