Algeria Defeats South Korea in Six-Goal Thriller

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Algeria national football team is on the verge of qualifying for the first ever appearance in the World Cup knock-out stage after defeating South Korea 4-2 on Sunday.

It is Algeria's first World Cup victory since 1982, where they beat West Germany and Chile.

In the match held at the Rio stadium in Porto Alegre, Islam Slimani gave the Algerian team the lead in the 26th minute and two minutes later Rafik Halliche extended the lead.

Abdelmoumene Djabou made it 3-0 in the first half.

Five minutes into the second half, Heung-Min Son pulled a goal back for South Korea but Yasine Brahimi scored for the African representative in the 62nd minute and rubbed salt into Korean’s wounds.

Ja-Cheol Koo was on target for South Korea 10 minutes later.

Algeria will take on Russia on June 27 needing just a point against Fabio Capello’s team.
