Iran Eyes Rise in Trade Ties with Croatia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian president said the economic relations between Tehran and Zagreb are far from “desirable", expressing the hope for a jump in the trade ties between the two nations.

In a Monday meeting with the European country’s incoming ambassador to Tehran, President Hassan Rouhani hoped that trade and economic relations between the two states will increase during the new envoy’s tenure in Iran.

Receiving Striebor Keric’s credentials, Rouhani said the expansion of Iran-Croatia ties would benefit both nations.

“Iran is ready to cooperate with Croatia in the bilateral and international spheres,” the president added.

The European diplomat, for his part, pledged to do his best to broaden Croatia’s ties with the Islamic Republic.

“Croatia welcomes enhancement of the economic, cultural, tourism and scientific cooperation with Iran,” added the envoy.

After Croatia declared independence in June 1991, Iran became the 7th country to recognize the newly independent Southeastern Europe nation. Since April 1992, the two countries have had diplomatic relations.
