World Cup 2014: Spain Downs Australia 3-0


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Reigning champion Spain finished the 2014 FIFA World Cup with an easy 3-0 win over Australia in Group B on Monday.

David Villa opened the scoring in the 36th minute.

Fernando Torres extended Spain’s lead in the 69th minute and with eight minute remaining, Juan Mata scored the third goal.

Spain had a disastrous opener against Netherlands, where the 2010 World Cup champion lost 5-1.Spain also lost to Chile 2-0.

Spain finished third in Group B on three points, ahead of pointless Australia but behind the Netherlands and Chile on nine and six points respectively.
