World Cup 2014: Mexico 3 – 1 Croatia


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Mexico football team earned a late 3-1 victory over Croatia in Recife in Group A of the 2014 World Cup.

Rafael Marquez scored for the Mexican team in the 72nd minute. Three minutes later Andres Guardado extended Mexico’s lead. Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez made it 3-0 in the 82nd minute.

Robert Perisic scored a consolation goal for Croatia in the 87th minute, but the team was reduced to 10 men two minutes later, when Ante Rebic was sent off for a violent challenge on Carlos Pena.

Mexico finished second in Group A, behind Brazil, which beat Cameroon, 4-1, in Brasilia.

The team will head into the Round of 16, where it will face the Netherlands in Fortaleza on Sunday.
