Italy Eliminated from World Cup

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Uruguay national football team defeated 10-man Italy on Tuesday to reach the second round of the 2014 World Cup.

Uruguay captain Diego Godin scored in the 81st minute with a header.

Four-time champion Italy will return home after the group phase for the second time in a row.

In the 59th minute, Claudio  Marchisio received a red card for putting his boot into Egidio Arevalo’s knee.

Luis Suarez appeared to bite Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in the 80th minute.

Chiellini said Suarez should have been sent off and that the red card for Italy midfielder Marchisio should never have been given.

"The red for Marchisio and not sending off Suarez were ridiculous," Chiellini said.

"It was absolutely clear. There's even a mark," Chiellini said of the bite.

Uruguay, who finished in the second place in Group D, will play winner of Group C Colombia, with Costa Rica take on the runner-up Greece.
