Greece Advances with Last-Gasp Penalty

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Greece national football team advanced to World Cup last 16 for the first time after defeating Ivory Coast 2-1 on Tuesday.

Georgios Samaras gave Greece the lead in the 42nd minute.

Wilfried Bony equalized the match in the 74th minute. The Elephants only needed a draw to advance but Giovanni Sio brought Samaras down in the penalty area in the 91st minute.

Samaras's dramatic injury-time penalty took Greece into the World Cup last 16.

Greece finished in second place in Group C and will play Group D champion Costa Rica at the Arena Pernambuco on June 30.
