Nuclear Negotiations Difficult but Constructive: Ashton’s Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Spokesman for the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherin Ashton said Saturday that the morning talks between top negotiators of Iran and the EU were difficult but at the same time constructive.

“Schmid and Araqchi continued drafting session this morning, as expected difficult, but constructive and businesslike atmosphere,” tweeted Michael Mann.

First consultation meeting between Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and EU Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Helga Schmid to compile comprehensive nuclear agreement text wrapped up after some 8 hours on Saturday.

Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany inch closer to a final nuclear agreement. The two sides have less than three weeks to clinch a deal by their self-imposed deadline that expires on July 20.

The new round of talks will continue until at least July 15. If required, the negotiating parties would carry on consultations to the last moment on July 20.
