Iranian Envoy: ISIL Puts Whole Region in Jeopardy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Kuwait said the ISIL (the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) terrorist group poses a serious threat not only to Iraq, but also to the whole region.

“The ISIL is a terrorist idea based on sectarianism and violence which embodies all bad ideas including terrorism and sectarianism. In fact, the ISIL is a serious threat not only to Iraq, but also to the whole region,” Alireza Enayati was quoted as saying by Kuwait’s Alrai.

He also warned against the spillover of ISIL’s terrorist activities into other countries, saying it is unclear which country the Takfiri group will invade after Syria and Iraq.

The ISIL terrorist group, an offshoot of al-Qaeda, has captured areas on both sides of the Iraqi-Syrian border after seizing the Iraqi city of Mosul on June 10 and sweeping towards Baghdad.

In Syria, ISIL Takfiri militants have battled with government forces, wreaking havoc in the crisis-torn country.

Iraqi security forces have launched major offensives to retake control of the captured areas.
