Iran Too Strong for Indonesia in FIBA Asia Cup


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran basketball team defeated Indonesia 77-47 in Pool A of the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup in Wuhan, China on Sunday.

Hamed Hadadi and Oshin Sahakian didn’t take to court at all, and there was no need to, as the rest of the roster each played for at least 10 minutes apiece.

The result gave Iran its second win after the team defeated Japan 75-52 in the opening match.

Iran, who lost to China 64-51 on Saturday, will play India on Tuesday in the last match of the preliminary round.

Asghar Kardoust led the Iranian scoring with 18 points and Lopez Enguio was Indonesian best scorer with 16 points.

Arsalan Kazemi also played his first game for the Iranian team in almost three years.

The FIBA Asia Cup, between 2004 and 2010 known as the FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup, is a basketball tournament which takes place every two years between teams of the continent.

The 5th edition of the competitions has started on July 11 in Wuhan, Hubei, China and will finish on July 19.

The winner of this tournament will automatically qualify for the FIBA Asia Championship in 2015.
