Iran Censures UNSC’s Inaction on Gaza Massacre
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif slammed the UN Security Council’s silence on Israel’s atrocities against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
“Unfortunately, over the past week, we have witnessed the irresponsible inaction of the UN Security Council with the silent consent of the self-proclaimed advocates of human rights or even their support for the massacre of civilians, including women, children and the elderly, in the Gaza strip,” he stated.
Zarif made the comments during an inter-parliamentary troika meeting, attended by the former, current, and future chairmen of the Parliamentary Union of Islamic Countries (PUIC), in Tehran on Tuesday.
“I hope the meeting, which has been held to reach a solution to confront the Zionist regime’s aggression against Gaza, will lead us to find practical solutions to end the human tragedy in the Gaza Strip and assist the oppressed people in the region,” the Iranian foreign minister said.
He expressed grave concern over the deepening crisis in the besieged territory and said the Iranian hospitals are fully prepared to receive the Palestinians injured in the Israeli onslaught.
As Israel continues to bomb hundreds of targets in the Gaza Strip, hospitals are facing a shortage of medical supplies. Pre-existing shortages are being exacerbated by heightened need and by the border policies of the Egyptian government, which continues to restrict entry into Gaza.
On July 8, Israel launched air strikes on the Gaza Strip. After 10 days of bombardment of the enclave from the air and sea, the Israeli forces started a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.
Around 650 Palestinians have been killed and more than 4,000 have been wounded in the 16-day Israeli onslaught.
